samatha

'tranquillity', serenity, is a synonym of

• samādhi (concentration),

• cittekaggatā (one-pointed ness of mind) and

• avikkhepa (undistracted ness).

It is one of the mental factors in wholesome consciousness. Cf. foll. and bhāvanā.
